Re-Registration Blocks

On occasion, the Student Application and Registration Office issues a Re-Registration Block to students. Re-registration blocks for international students are issued by the International Office.

There are various reasons for a re-registration block. The most common are e.g.

  • an incomplete submission of documents for enrollment (e.g. missing certified copy of the school leaving certificate (“Abitur”) or the first university degree)
  • temporary enrollment (e.g. for doctoral studies or degree programmes that are being phased out)
  • a missing proof of health insurance

A re-registration block can only be lifted if students submit the required documents to the Student Application and Registration Office or International Office by a specified semester.

Students will be notified by the Student Application and Registration Office or the International Office that a re-registration block has been entered for them and which documents must be submitted by which date in order to prevent exmatriculation.

Students and applicants can check in KLIPS 2.0 whether a re-registration block has been issued.

Please note: The following instructions refer to the desktop view. On mobile devices, the steps are analogous.

1. First, log into KLIPS 2.0 with your student account. If your student account is not yet activated, the application is also visible in your basic account.

2. In the application menu, click on the Re-Registration Block application.

Please note: The application Re-Registration Block only appears if a re-registration block has been entered for you. If there is no re-registration block, the application will not be displayed in your application menu.

View of the home screen. The Re-Registration Blocks application is highlighted in the application menu.

3. The application opens. In the Re-Registration Block overview, you will see all the re-registration blocks that have been entered for you.

View of the list of re-registration blocks. One re-registration block is listed and highlighted.

In the example shown above, there is a re-registration block due to incomplete documents upon enrollment: The certified copy of the university entrance qualification (HZB) still has to be submitted. This is usually the school leaving certificate (“Abitur”). The certified copy must be submitted until re-registration for the 2022/23 winter semester, i.e. the documents must be submitted to the Student Application and Registration Office before the start of the 2022/23 winter semester.

Several re-registration blocks may be active at the same time. In the example below, there is, as above, a re-registration block due to incomplete documents upon enrollment. In addition, there is a re-registration block due to missing or digitally unconfirmed health insurance data. Both blocks must be lifted in time for re-registration for the 2022/23 winter semester, i.e. the proof must be submitted to the Student Application and Registration Office before the start of the 2022/23 winter semester.
